It's a...

Boy!!

We couldn't be more excited! At the beginning we both wanted a girl but for the past few weeks I just sort of felt like Blob was a boy so I had been getting really excited for that. I think more than anything we're just excited to know a bit more about who this tiny human is! I hate suspense and now I am so relieved to know what we're having.

^^ Waiting at the doctor's office ^^
Everything looked super healthy with the baby- he's exactly on track with his growth, his noggin and heart look great and he has a really cute little face. Right at the end he was waving at us. I am pretty sure he wasn't actually meaning to wave but I will take his little dancing arms as a wave.

I think learning the gender of the baby makes the whole thing a lot more real, even more so than when I got a positive on the pregnancy test. Now I can start visualizing him in the nursery or running around the back yard. I am getting more and more excited every time I think about how much fun it will be to have a boy.

A few things we look forward to about a boy:

Teaching him about Star Wars (we've already purchased him some Darth Vader bedding)

Lining up little green army men in the street and watching them get run over by cars (a favorite of my brothers when they were little)

Helping him understand that Batman is way cooler than Spiderman

Teaching him how to be a priesthood holder

Motherboy! (if you don't know what this is then you need to watch more Arrested Development)

Teaching him what puns and jokes are (his dad will take full responsibility for this one)

Someday playing tennis with him and teaching him all sorts of sports and games

Thomas and I couldn't be more thrilled! Now it's even harder to wait to meet him!

Vintage Shells

I have a friend who is vintage to her core. She's quirky and has her own unique style down pat. We used to make fun of her grandma sweaters but somehow she pulled them off with ease. She and I became instant friends one lonely Christmas in Santa Barbara when she picked me up from the airport and we discovered a mutual love for the movie The Master of Disguise. We were inseparable from there on out.

She's since moved to a few different states, we've both gotten married and she has the cutest little chub of a baby you'll ever see. I started this blanket with someone else in mind but it became so clear to me as I worked it was definitely for this vintage friend of mine.

There is just something about these colors that says 1970's to me. I hope it also reads a little modern though. I think my favorite part of making this blanket was putting all the fringe on. I did a little tutorial on it over HERE. This might be the fringe-iest blanket I've ever made and the result is just so satisfying!

Summer Sailing

Last summer I discovered my love for sailing. A friend of ours has a boat and he invited us to help him out a few times last summer when he'd race his friends out at the harbor. Last night we finally got to go back out on the boat and it finally felt like summer! I was so warm at the dock but once we got out on the boat it cooled down a bit. We'd feel these warm gusts of air every once in a while and it was just the most glorious day for sailing.

There was a nice strong wind that took us out around Egg Rock. I love watching this tiny island grow bigger and bigger and then back to tiny again on the journey. The second race was to the other end of the Swampscott harbor and back, we had the mainsail up for that part of the race which means more moving parts and excitement. There were some great hairpin turns in there! The crew was Steve the boat owner, Thomas, me and another friend Aaron so there was plenty to keep us busy pulling ropes and jumping around. I loved every minute of it!

Our post-sailing tradition is to go to one of our favorite places for dinner. Maybe we love it so much because we've always worked up an appetite beforehand but it is so good! It's called Paradiso Ristorante right by the train station in Swampscott. We haven't eaten there since last summer and it was so exciting to go back. By the end of the evening I was feeling so blithe, a huge smile stretched across my face. It was the perfect way to really get summer started!
